Created for the Magic: The Gathering New Phyrexia set, Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur is a historically noteworthy piece by fantasy artist Eric Deschamps. Released in 2011 by Wizards of the Coast, as part of the Scars of Mirrodin block, Jin-Gitaxias primarily saw significant play in Reanimator strategies in Legacy, and still sees play in some EDH/Commander decks. Artist Eric Deschamps primarily works digitally, and there was no final painted version of Jin-Gitaxias, so these sketches are the de facto “original artwork” available in physical form.

During the Magic: The Gathering art creation process, artists usually create a preliminary sketch of their idea for the direction of the artwork, and then forward this preliminary work to the art director of the project for approval. After the art director’s approval, the wheels are set in motion for the final artwork (traditional or digital) to be created. This preliminary artwork is a unique look in to what the artist originally envisioned for the piece, which sometimes changes before the final product takes shape. This lot for sale includes the set of 3 different perspective preliminary sketches (sketch 2 is on the back of sketch 1, while the final sketch 3 perspective is on its own sheet, so 2 sheets of total paper – may be most suitable for double sided “floating” framing).

Every piece of original artwork purchased from MTGKingpin includes a Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing its authenticity and legitimacy as advertised. Most original artwork was purchased directly from the artist, and has a short chain of custody, and trackable provenance.
